Braun · Alarm clock

Braun BC02

A bedside clock with one job, drawn from a Braun design of the late 1980s and barely touched since.

The case

Braun says it comes from the AB 1, designed in the late 1980s by Dietrich Lubs: a clean face, a yellow seconds hand, nothing extra.
The alarm is a crescendo beep that starts soft and grows louder. The quartz movement is quiet, and the hands have luminous tips.
It's 57 mm square, small enough for any nightstand. There's no app, no screen and no notifications, which is the point.

For

Someone trying to get the phone out of the bedroom.

Skip if

They need a big glowing display, or a snooze button. This one is small and analogue. The BC02X version adds snooze and a backlight.

Know before you give

It runs on one AA battery, and Braun doesn't include it. Put one in the box.
