Chemex Six-Cup

Glass, wood and a leather tie since 1941. Still the handsomest way to make coffee for two.

The case

  • Dr. Peter Schlumbohm, a chemist, designed and patented it in 1941. It's in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
  • It's borosilicate glass with a polished wood collar and a leather tie. The collar is the handle.
  • The six-cup holds 30 oz, about two generous mugs. Chemex counts a cup as 5 oz.

For

The person who makes the coffee for someone else every morning.

Skip if

They want coffee at the press of a button, or they won't add a kettle and a grinder. It needs both to shine.

Know before you give

Chemex filters are heavier than ordinary paper filters and they're sold separately. Put a box in with the gift.
