For

A photographer with a Canon EOS R-series camera who wants one small lens for daily pictures and for getting close to things.

Skip if

The camera isn't in Canon's EOS R series. A Rebel is not an R. Check the name on the camera first.

The case

  • It focuses as close as 0.56 ft (0.17 m) and reaches 0.5x magnification, so a watch face or a place setting can fill much of the frame.
  • Canon rates the built-in stabilization at up to 5 stops of shake correction, which helps with handheld shots in dim rooms.
  • A control ring on the barrel changes settings directly, without a trip into the menus.

Know before you give

Canon lists this lens for EOS R series cameras, and it uses the RF mount. Look at the model name on the camera before you buy, and check that a 35mm isn't already in the bag.
